Our People

We strive to create a great place to work that is safe, inclusive and has the best talent who can connect with current and emerging customer needs. We always seek to promote diversity and equality end to end through our products, stores and marketing.

Our 10,000+ team members across 7 countries are the foundation of our retail brands and a key part of our success.

At The Just Group, we believe that every workplace should be free from discrimination and that everyone should feel confident to be themselves at all times.

At the Just Group, we have a continued focus on creating the trajectory of opportunity and great careers for women in retail. In Financial Year 2022, 91% of our total team and 52% of our executive leadership team are women.

We continue to work hard on building more holistic diversity and inclusion across our teams including cultural inclusion, reconciliation and LGBTQ+.

With over 1000 stores and across Australia and New Zealand, our workforce reflects the diversity of our customers. We’re committed to be safe and inclusive workplaces through our inclusive leadership.

We embrace diversity and equality every day. We are committed to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, skills and views. The more inclusive we are the better we can connect with the cross section of customers and communities we live and work in. Creating a culture of equality isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s also the smart thing.

We aim to support our team member’s career goals regardless of age, disability, race, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, family responsibilities or cultural background to ensure they feel safe and included at work.

Throughout the recruitment process, we provide support for candidates to make sure nobody is disadvantaged. Even if you don’t think you meet all the selection criteria, candidates are encouraged to apply.

Creating a safe working environment for our team, customers and visitors is a key priority that is embedded in our culture. Our teams are trained to monitor, assess, prevent, record and minimise risk following our  “Just Play It Safe” initiatives and “Safety Eyes” framework.

In addition, we conduct annual Workplace Behaviour training to ensure everyone is aware of expectations, obligations and how to voice concerns. If a team member has identified or experienced any breach of our Code of Conduct, there are several avenues where they are encouraged to speak up.

We facilitate mental well-being training, and our teams also have access to an external Employee Assistance Program for a confidential counselling service.

Creating engaging customer experiences starts with our stores and Support Office teams. Listening deeply to emerging needs and building a great place to work enables us to attract and retail diversity of talent.

We are committed to unlocking the potential of every team member.

The Just Group provides ongoing and regular training opportunities to develop and support our future aspiring leaders throughout the year. Our training and development programs include on-the-job learning, online modules and face-to-face workshops.  platform.

Celebrating our achievements, big and small, are essential for individuals and teams.

The top-performing Regional Managers, Store Managers, Visual Merchandisers and Salespeople for each of our brands are rewarded for their outstanding leadership and delivery of results.

Behind the scenes, our Brands are championed by multiple support functions, including eCommerce & Marketing, Supply Chain & Logistics, Finance, Legal, Property, Retail Operations, IT and People & Culture.

All of these teams play a critical role in the success of the business, supporting all aspects of our Brands’ strategy and ultimately providing excellent outcomes for our customers and shareholders.

Application Tips

We know you want to create a great profile when applying for a role with us. To get started, you’ll need to create a log in.

Our advice to you:

  • Use a professional email address; for example, create a new account and use your name rather than your email account
  • Upload your most up-to-date information, and don’t forget to include your current mobile number!
  • Tell us your available days & hours for work, and be as accurate as you can
  • And remember, if anything changes, then log in and update it

We know a resume is time-consuming, but it’s worthwhile. It’s your chance to show us just how great you are!

Our advice to you:

  • Include your current and previous work experience; it’s best to put the most recent first.
  • Make sure you tell us your previous company, job title, how long you’ve been there and importantly, why you left or want to leave.
  • Keep it simple, and bullet point your responsibilities/duties
  • Provide a very brief overview of your education

And remember, your resume is a professional document, so take the time to make it look and sound good, do a quick spell check before you save it!

We know how nerve-wracking interviews can be, but remember that we want you to be awesome, and it’s your chance to shine!

Our advice to you:

  • Be prepared!
  • Whether your first interview is on the phone or face to face; try and relax, be yourself, know your resume and do some research, so you know something about the brand and position you are applying for
  • For a face-to-face interview
    • Make sure you check out the location and plan your route there before you leave, give yourself plenty of time.
    • Look your best! Wear something appropriate, maybe aligned with the brand you are applying for, so you look spectacular.

And remember, be a little bit early!

You have aced your interview, and now we want to learn more about your incredible skills from your previous employers. A referee needs to be a current or prior manager of yours.

Our advice to you:

  • Make sure you choose someone you directly report to, like your manager, team leader, supervisor etc.
  • Provide their most up-to-date contact details; remember to ask them first before giving their information.
  • They will appreciate it if you give them a heads-up to expect our call.
  • We can talk to a character referee if you are stuck on who to use. They cannot be a family member or personal friend. We suggest that if you have never had a job, you can ask a lecturer, teacher, sports coach or youth group leader if they would be happy to talk to us about how great you are.

Benefits & Rewards

We recognise the importance of rewarding our employees with benefits that create excitement and inspire performance. Some of our benefits include the following:

Our people should be rewarded for outstanding performance, which is why we award incentives across many of our teams in our business.

With 7 brands in our portfolio, this provides many opportunities to extend yourself and grow your career whether you start as a Christmas Casual or in a management capacity; we can offer career opportunities for all.

Each year we recognise our top-performing Managers and team members by presenting Excellence Awards for each brand in the business.

We know you love the product our brands offer and know you want to stay up to date with current trends, so that is why we offer generous discounts for all our employees.

You will participate in performance feedback discussions with your manager encouraging you to develop your career and pursue new opportunities in the company.

Our Commitment to the Community

Through continued collaboration and philanthropic funding, we are proud to work alongside several organisations through financial and in-kind support programs.

At the Just Group, it is important to impact the communities where we work and live positively. We are grateful and inspired by the many organisations supporting communities and are proud to provide support.

We continue to help several charities and organisations that make a real difference. We are also thankful for the generous contributions of our teams and customers in our fundraising efforts.  This includes supporting those impacted by the flood and fire-affected communities, donations to the Red Cross and partnering with NSW-based charity Thread Together to donate first-life clothing to those in need.

Peter Alexander is passionate about PJs and equally about animal welfare.

Our Peter Alexander team has had a long-standing relationship with RSPCA in Australia and Paw Justice in New Zealand. The work includes several activities to fundraise and build awareness to prevent animal cruelty.

Since our partnership commenced with the RSPCA over 15 years ago and Paw Justice 8 years ago, the Peter Alexander brand has donated a total sum of $1.4m (check amount)

Families are at the heart of all our brands, and none more so than Smiggle.

The Just Group and Smiggle brand contribute and fundraise for several charities that support children’s physical and mental wellbeing at home and in schools.

Smiggle has long-standing relationships with organisations such as the Alannah and Madeline Foundation and Dolly’s Dream.

Smiggle is in partnership with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.  This organisation is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children who have experienced or witnessed violence, including cyberbullying and bullying in schools. Smiggle has donated products for inclusion in the charity’s “Buddy Bag” programme, which provides vulnerable children with a backpack full of essential home and school supplies.

Smiggle has been supporting Dolly’s Dream since 2019 and has sold “Choose Kindness Keyrings during the back-to-school period, donating all proceeds to Dolly’s Dream. Dolly’s Dream is dedicated to changing the culture of bullying by addressing the impact of bullying, anxiety, depression and youth suicide through education and direct support for young people and families.

Peter Alexander

At age 24, Peter decided it was time to be his own boss. When his female friends were unable to find comfortable women’s pyjamas that weren’t matronly styles, he decided to get into the pyjama game.

Working from his Mother’s dining room table, Peter began making women’s pyjamas and selling them to department stores. When the phone rang, Peter and his Mum would pretend to be someone else to make the business seem bigger!

When a department store cancelled an order for 2000 pairs of pyjamas, Peter turned his biggest setback into an opportunity. He then put a mail-order advertisement in a popular women’s magazine, and the response was overwhelming. Peter was flooded with 6000 orders from one ad; since then, he hasn’t looked back!

Following this success, the business started to grow and attract media attention. Peter was dubbed the ‘Pyjama King’ by the Australian Media, and the nickname has stuck to this day! His humorous, quirky and playful personality shines through in every collection.

The Just Group acquired the business in 2000. Since then, Peter Alexander Sleepwear has grown with leaps and bounds from a pure catalogue-based company to a multi-channel business with 100 retail stores within Australia and New Zealand, with Peter Alexander himself as the brand’s Creative Director.

Do you want to work somewhere where all your dreams can come true? A place where doors are pink, and it’s acceptable to wear sleepwear during the day? Where originality is embraced, imaginations can flourish, and no one’s ever short of a smile.

If this sounds like the dream place to work, then come and join Peter’s Dream Team.

Always a step ahead and thinking of the customer, we respect the individual style and embrace all the latest trends. We try to keep things affordable, so a fresh outfit is accessible to all.

Raymond Levis and Linda Bowen founded Dotti in Sydney in 1981. Rumours persist that the inspiration for the Dotti name comes either from Linda’s mother Dorothy, a style icon in her own right or from the stylish shopping destination in Rome known as Via Condotti.

In 2004 the Dotti chain became a part of The Just Group and began expanding throughout Australia and New Zealand. In as little time as it takes to bat your lashes, Dotti exploded from just ten stores to opening its 100th store in December 2009. In 2012 Dotti launched an Australian online store and, more recently, in 2015, a New Zealand-specific online store.

We are part of The Just Group and other big fashion names like Portmans, Peter Alexander, Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Jacqui E and Smiggle. The Just Group operates over 1,000 stores with around 10,000 employees throughout Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, UK & Ireland!
