Our goal is simple – to help New Zealanders live better lives.  We want New Zealand to be a place where everyone can succeed, where the economy is strong, and where the environment is protected for future generations.

What do we actually do? Help to shape New Zealand’s future

The Treasury wears many hats! Some of our key roles include:

  • Economic Experts: Advising the Government on how to grow the economy and tackle big challenges like housing and climate change.
  • Budget Bosses: Preparing the annual Budget and managing public finances.
  • Money Managers: Keeping an eye on the Government’s investments and financial health.
  • State Sector Leaders: Helping public agencies deliver better services for Kiwis.

We also manage the Government’s debt and help Kiwi businesses succeed overseas through New Zealand Export Credit.
