It’s a big deal and a big step – especially if this is your first job or you’ve never had an interview. With some planning and preparation, you can put your best foot forward!

And the good news is that if you’re interviewing for a role in-store at Kmart, they’re on hand to give you their secret source tips on how to smash it.

Keep reading for their exclusive tips!

First Things First: Let’s Get to Know Each Other

As part of the recruitment process, Kmart has an interactive chat interview as a first step.

It’s all online and a great way to learn more about the roles within a Kmart store and tell them more about yourself.

Once you’ve had your interactive chat interview, the next step is a quick in-store meet and greet – this could be one-to-one or in a group interview format, and it’s your chance to meet the store leadership team.

Before We Meet

This means setting up a profile and ensuring you update your information regularly. This way, the team at Kmart will get to know all about you and what you’re looking for so they can match available roles to you!

Here, the Kmart team offer their best tips to get ready for your face-to-face interview:

1. Do your research.

It’s essential to be well-prepared for an interview and know some basics about the company you’re applying for.

Visit the Kmart Careers site to learn a bit about us and the roles we offer.

2. Arrive on time.

This is a no-brainer – it shows you are reliable and someone who can be trusted. Allow plenty of time for traffic, finding a parking spot and anything else that might hold you up!

It’s a good idea to do a trial run at the time of day you’ll be attending your interview a few days in advance so you are prepared and know where you’re going.

3. Look your best.

Customer service calls for cleanliness and friendliness. If you show up looking neat and tidy with a smile on your face, a hiring manager can be confident that their customers will be in good hands with you.

4. Prepare some questions to ask the hiring team.

This shows that you’re interested and keen to learn.

Some examples might be, “What’s your favourite thing about working here?” or “What kind of training is available to me?”

5. Be ready to answer common interview questions.

Some common questions generally get asked in interviews, and you can prepare for them in advance!

Have a think in advance about how you might answer the following:

  • Why are you right for this job?
  • What excites you about working in this role/company?
  • What are your plans for the next year or two?
  • What are you into in your spare time?
  • What are some achievements you’re proud of?
