Moana New Zealand is the largest m\u0101ori-owned seafood\u00a0company and the second largest seafood company in terms of\u00a0quota volume and value in New Zealand.<\/p>\n
We are unique in that we are the only organisation that is\u00a0owned by all m\u0101ori (58 iwi across New Zealand).<\/p>\n
Established in 2004 as Aotearoa Fisheries Limited through the\u00a0M\u0101ori Fisheries Act, Moana New Zealand is an important part\u00a0of the inter-generational M\u0101ori Fisheries Settlement with the\u00a0Crown.<\/p>\n
The nature of that Settlement means that m\u0101ori will always\u00a0be involved in fisheries; activities and investments have a\u00a0long-term perspective that is respectful of fisheries and the\u00a0ecosystems we are part of.<\/p>\n
Our settlement assets will never be sold.\u00a0Moana New Zealand must pay dividends to its shareholders of\u00a0at least 40% of profit, with the balance retained to invest in\u00a0growth opportunities for future generations.\u00a0Shareholder dividends are then used by Iwi to fund their own\u00a0social agendas.<\/p>\n
Our ability to pay dividends and to manage assets in a\u00a0commercial manner is directly linked to the successful\u00a0management of New Zealand\u2019s fisheries.<\/p>\n
