The Role:
As of 27th January 2023, Downer Energy are thrilled to announce that we are one of the two delivery partners who have won the WEL contract. WEL is an electricity distribution business connecting over 95,000 households and businesses in the Waikato region through maintaining the network of power lines, poles and underground cables and technology.
The contract allows Downer to create 26 job opportunities for talented people to help us deliver the Construction Services Minor and Major Capital Works for WEL Networks.
As we grow our team, it allows those who are skilled, the ability to pass knowledge, coach, and upskill those interested in a Line Mechanic trade. We have two Trainee Line Mechanic opportunities, but we will increase this number depending on the volume of interested applicants.
Downer will pay for all your training and courses, and after two years you will be a qualified Line Mechanic, being able to work unsupervised in the areas of construction, maintenance and fault diagnosis/rectification of all power line network equipment and installations.
These are full-time, permanent roles paying between $25.00 – $30.00 p/h based on experience. Overtime and allowances will be available when required.
About You:
The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in becoming a qualified Line Mechanic in a reasonable timeframe and be committed to providing high-quality work and excellent customer service.
- NZQA Level 4
- Current Class 1 driver’s licence (car), and ideally HT
- Eagerness to learn, thoroughness and attention to detail
- Willingness to have a go
- Commitment to working within the company and clients’ Zero Harm systems
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally and written
- Ability to work effectively under general supervision
- Ability to work well under pressure
