Aboriginal Community Development Worker (Casual)

About the role

This role is responsible for engaging community, building and maintaining community networks, organising and supporting new and existing community events to assist us in connecting and supporting Aboriginal families within Bankstown, Fairfield and Liverpool LGA. This role works across Cabramatta Multicultural Family Centre programs, with a focus on building and sustaining strong, positive relationships with the Aboriginal Community.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role. Having an understanding of your local community and key Aboriginal stakeholders in your community is essential.

As the Aboriginal Community Development worker your role will specifically:

• Consult with the community and key stakeholders to identify needs and develop innovative strategies that will result in greater levels of safety, wellbeing, social connections and positive health and outcomes for residents. Paying particular attention to those experiencing marginalisation due to social, economic, cultural or other factors.
• Organising, coordinating and promoting activities in the Bankstown- Fairfield and Liverpool local government areas.
• Provide support to parents taking part in the Cabramatta MFC service and any other early childhood activities as required.
• Provide written articles and promote community inclusion in the newsletter produced by Uniting for the Fairfield and Liverpool LGA.
• Provide events and activities that bring people together and prevent social isolation in the area.
• Develop partnerships with relevant service providers
• Connect Families and community with services within Cabramatta Multicultural Family Centre.

About You

• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work/ Welfare/ Community Work or equivalent experience with 2 years’ experience in the community development field.
• Demonstrated commitment to provision of services to socio- economically disadvantaged families, children and communities.
• Demonstrated ability to consult and work in partnership with residents and local services to identify needs and priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, facilitate and evaluate project goals and desired outcomes in partnership with residents using strengths-based approach.
• Ability to manage competing goals and to deliver outcomes under minimal supervision.
• Valid NSW Working with Children’s check.
