Your role:

Spend 12 months developing your potential for future leadership roles and learning about the dynamic career of a Navy Electronics Engineer. You’ll be taught all the fundamentals of being a Navy Officer including teamwork, leadership and management at the Royal Australian Naval College at Jervis Bay NSW. Here you will make friends from everywhere around Australia while learning valuable skills that set you up for a career in or outside the Navy.

Learn from qualified Navy Electrical Engineers as they manage the operation, maintenance and repair of advanced systems critical to the ship’s mission. You will be exposed to a full range of engineering equipment across radar, sonar, communication, navigation and weapons systems – your experience is guaranteed to be varied. You’ll also learn all about the duties of an Electronics Engineer, including coordinating and scheduling tasks, overseeing teams of technicians and providing technical support to the Command team.

As a Gap Year Electronics Engineer, you’ll be immersed in Navy innovation and engineering, working closely with the people who tackle a range of engineering challenges both at sea and ashore.

Take on this action-packed 12-month role in the Navy and experience what life could be like in the Defence Force. It’s called the ADF Gap Year Program, but it isn’t just reserved for people that are straight out of school. It’s a unique opportunity where you’ll get the chance to try out a year in Defence working alongside fully qualified Electronics Engineers, all without needing any prior qualifications. The Navy Gap Year Program is a one-year commitment that takes you well beyond the ordinary to experience everything the Navy has to offer. Salary:

During your 12-month role, you’ll receive a salary package starting from $33,126.

In addition to your salary, you will receive generous superannuation, housing subsidies, free medical and dental care, service and uniform allowances, as well as a Maritime Allowance (if applicable).

For this role, you must have completed Year 12 level of secondary education (or equivalent) to Officer Entry standard and achieved an ATAR which would qualify you for entry into a degree at UNSW/ADFA that is aligned to a relevant engineering pathway. Applications can be considered if you are yet to complete Year 12 and are tracking towards the required ATAR.
