In the office, our physical spaces provide more informal working areas and meeting rooms so you can successfully collaborate and network.

The EY Social Club organises a range of activities, from sporting events to informal and formal social functions.

  • Employee Insurances:

You have access to a fully subsidised Group Workplace scheme providing Group Life & Terminal Illness Insurances, and Income Protection.

  • Dress for your day:

We’ve introduced Dress for Your Day, a dress code that further binds our unique culture of flexibility, authenticity and creativity. It means our people can now dress in a way that is appropriate for their work each day. Those with no external client meetings can choose smart casual dress, while those meeting with external clients may opt for more formal attire.

  • Family leave:

We provide 26 weeks of paid parental leave, which can be taken flexibly by either parent during the 24 months after the child(ren)’s birth. There is no required service period to access the leave. This applies to stillborn birth, adoption, and surrogacy and can be taken as block leave or on a part-time basis. All family leave entitlements are inclusive of LGBTQ people, regardless of the gender of the Staff Member or their partner. This is on top of the Government’s paid parental leave provisions. We provide five days of paid leave for early pregnancy loss and fertility treatment. Along with leave for grandparents to take around the time of birth of adoption of a grandchild with further access to unpaid leave for up to 12 months.

Hear from our Students

Meet Cassandra

My name is Cassandra, and I am a technology consultant in the Cybersecurity team at EY.  I graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor in Engineering specialising in Computer Systems. Prior to this, I was an intern in the Auckland EY office across the summer of 2020-2021, and recently began as a graduate in March 2022.

While I was studying, I chose to be a consulting intern at EY because it combined my passion for problem-solving and my love for helping people. I had heard great things about the Internship Programme, the learning opportunities, and the wide global reach EY has, however, it was the culture that made me want to stay. Never before had I experienced a workplace which celebrated each person’s achievements and valued their people’s time and effort to such a great extent.

The learning and development opportunities at EY have been numerous! Throughout the Internship and Graduate Programmes, there were plenty of online resources and in-person presentations available to help me grow in skills and confidence. Since joining, I have completed an EY badge on Data Architecture, started learning Māori, and been to Sydney with the Cyber team for a conference. These are just a few of the many ways EY has helped me reach my personal goals and supported my growth.

To future students looking at a career with EY, I would say find what excites you and chase it! There is so much good you can do out in the world and so many ways you can get there and make it happen. EY has provided me with the experiences, opportunities, and environment to do exactly this. Initially, imposter syndrome hit hard, and I was unsure whether someone with a STEM background would fit in, but that worry was put to rest when I realised EY embraces what makes you different.

Māori & Pasifika

In EY New Zealand, we have Tahi, a standalone member firm of EY, that supports Māori organisations, government and businesses to accelerate success and produce meaningful outcomes through sustainable change for Māori people.  Founded in 2014, Tahi was born from a desire within EY to transform the professional advisor experience for the Māori market.

Tahi is guided by our tikanga (values) of whakarongo

(we listen), manaakitia (we support) and hāpaitia (we uplift).

We strive to be the trusted professional advisor for kaupapa Māori by having an exceptional team delivering quality work that produces meaningful outcomes. EY Tahi also coordinate the informal network for Māori staff.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Every year, the New Zealand offices recognise Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori language week) with a series of activations and sessions designed to increase the use of Te Reo Māori in everyday life and educate our people on all aspects of Te Ao Māori.

Keeping it Reo!

We run a number of te reo Māori sessions across all New Zealand offices. Learning outcomes include: basics of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), correct pronunciation, basic greetings and introductions, grammar and sentence structure, waiata (song) and karakia (chant/prayer).

Matariki

New Zealand offices celebrate Matariki (Māori New Year). Celebrations have been held since 2019. During the celebration week of Matariki our people experience waiata sessions, print and digital resources, and in-person events learning about Matariki.

Pōwhiri & mihi whakatau

We have implemented tikanga Māori (Māori customs and protocols) into EY practice across the firm. This includes the facilitation of pōwhiri or mihi whakatau (traditional Māori welcome). A Pōwhiri and mihi whakatau is a culturally appropriate way of welcoming manuhiri (visitors) by tangata whenua (home people e.g. EY people) and removes the tapu (sacredness) surrounding manuhiri so that they become one with EY people. This also includes applying Māori culture to the new partner ceremonies known as Eke Poutama, which involves elements of pōwhiri and mihi whaktau.

We have a Māori (Tuia!) and Pasifika network (Tangata) within the EY New Zealand practice.

Gender Equality

Our Gender Network is for EY people of all genders and provides opportunities for members to learn and advocate for gender equity by bringing everyone into the conversation to share different perspectives on flexibility, wellbeing and career progression in the workplace.

The EY organisation offers 26 weeks of paid parental leave, which can be taken flexibly by either parent during the 24 months after the child(ren)’s birth. This applies to stillborn birth, adoption, and surrogacy and can be taken as block leave or on a part-time basis. All family leave entitlements are inclusive of LGBTQ+ people, regardless of the gender of the person or their partner. This is on top of the government’s paid parental leave provisions. All parents are supported through the transition to parenthood and return-to-work process, through access to mentoring and a digital coaching platform.

We invest in diverse talent for balanced and equitable representation in leadership and commercial areas of focus. Research suggests that without deliberate focus, these opportunities can be provided in a biased way that is not gender-balanced. Some of the examples of how we champion gender equity across the organisation include:

EY POWER Up™

POWER Up™ is a professional development training that acknowledges the systemic barriers underrepresented talent face and provides a facilitated program focused on building personal leadership skills while aligning behaviours for women and allies to foster inclusion and belonging

The EY Women in Technology (WiT)

Network are committed to creating an inclusive culture to successfully harness technology’s potential and truly transform society. By educating women and girls, incubating their leadership potential and innovating new ways to empower a diverse technical workforce, we are dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology and creating an environment where everyone can succeed. The program supports girls and women to enter, remain, thrive and lead in the world of technology.

Women. Fast Forward

At the EY organisation, we are creating an inclusive culture to help enable women’s potential to truly transform society and build a better working world. Women. Fast Forward is the EY global platform that engages our people, our clients and our communities to advance gender equality. Through Women. Fast Forward, the EY organisation seeks to help empower a diverse workforce by helping enable women and girls to reach their potential through education, mentorship, innovation and entrepreneurial opportunities. Creating a workforce that will support the closing of the gender gap and nurture an environment where everyone is able to become architects of the transformative age.

Entrepreneurial Winning Women™

Spanning 60 countries, EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women™ targets “the missing middle” – those savvy women founders who have built profitable small companies across a range of industries but have not yet found the essential tools needed to scale. The EY organisation can give the founders ongoing access to our vast resources, rich networks and know-how, strengthening their abilities to become market leaders while creating a vibrant global community of successful women entrepreneurs and inspiring role models.

Ability

At a global level, the EY organisation is a member of PurpleSpace and is an inaugural signatory and iconic partner of the Valuable 500. These partnerships connect us with a global network of organisations dedicated to fostering inclusive workplaces, helping us e to share best practices, explore innovative solutions, and champion greater equity for people with disability.

In 2017, we announced our first ever Accessibility and Inclusion Plan – an ambitious strategy to elevate disability inclusion at the EY organisation. Since then, we have come a long way in building an inclusive working environment. Visit our current Accessibility and Inclusion Plan here. Ability is an EY network made up of those from many different life experience – for allies who support disability inclusion across the workplace and communities, for those who care for a person with a disability and for EY people living with a disability or chronic health conditions. It aims to elevate disability inclusion on all agendas and help ensure accessibility at the EY organisation, recognising the contribution all EY people make to the working world.

Ability is an EY network for allies who support disability inclusion across the workplace and communities, those who care for a person with a disability and EY people living with a disability. It aims to elevate disability inclusion on all agendas and ensure accessibility at EY, recognising the contribution all EY people make to the working world. Ability has a number of community groups, which aim to provide a safe space for EY people to connect with others who are navigating similar life experiences and foster a greater sense of belonging.

LGBTQ+

Creating a work environment where LGBTQ+ professionals can be their authentic selves at work is a core element of our diversity and inclusiveness commitment. All EY people policies protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity and our benefits packages provide same sex partnerships the same rights as all others. Some examples include our Gender Affirmation Leave and supporting guide to support staff members in affirming their gender identity and expression, and our ‘Dress for Your Day’ dress code that helps enable everyone to dress appropriately to the situation, client, the type of work they do, and in a way that aligns with their gender identity.

In New Zealand, EY has maintained the Rainbow Tick since 2017.

The EY global network group, Unity, supports LGBTQ+ EY people and their straight allies to create an inclusive culture where LGBTQ+ individuals can be their authentic selves at work. Unity also has closed community groups for those with firsthand lived experience.

We are committed to supporting Transgender, Gender Diverse and Non-Binary candidates through the EY recruitment process.

Cultural Diversity

The EY organisation is made up of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and countries of birth. Collectively, people across the EY organisation speak many languages and hold cultural experience in conducting business across global contexts. We aim to help ensure all EY people feel free to bring their full selves to work, and that our senior leadership reflects the broader cultural dimensions of our organisation.

Our flexible working policy allows EY people to substitute a public holiday (up to 2 times a year) for any reason, including days of cultural significance.

The CD@EY (Cultural Diversity at EY) Network aims to help empower the EY community to build a better working world through cultural diversity at work, with clients, the marketplace and the wider community. CD@EY runs initiatives to connect culturally diverse leaders and emerging leaders to help ensure the right mechanisms and support are in place to help enable EY professionals to realise their potential. The network has a core aim to increase awareness and appreciation of EY talent and to foster two-way dialogue and knowledge sharing between professionals of different heritages and faiths.

The EY organisation established the Cultural Diversity mentoring program, a six-month program designed to explore and support some of the challenges faced by our culturally diverse people and help build a sense of belonging. The program has provided participants access to targeted development and mentorship from senior leaders within the firm, with the intention of building the pipeline of culturally diverse leaders that reflects the communities in which EY teams serve.
